Stash Report - 27 Jan 2013

Yay!  I had a chance to do some sewing this week.  Last Sunday I cut out more blocks for the Lifesavers swap.  Over the course of the week, I've gotten all 24 blocks pieced - just need to press the last 2 seams on the blocks.

Not sure what I'm going to stitch on next.  I might make a few more Lifesaver blocks to keep for myself.  Have to see if I have enough scraps left of the batiks I cut last week.

I resisted temptation this week, and didn't even go to the Annual Quilter's Sale yesterday at Patchwork Plus.  Thought about getting some more batik FQs since they would be on sale, but decided I didn't really need any more right now.

Numbers for the week:

In this week:                     0 yds
In YTD:                         6.5 yds

Used this week:             3.28 yds
Used YTD:                    3.96 yds

Net for 2013:                 2.54 yds ADDED.

I think I need to pull out my other Kona black/batiks swap blocks while I have the Kona on the cutting table and put together sashing for those.

Stash Report - 20 January 2013

I had my first fabric purchases in over a year yesterday.
I was working on the Lifesavers swap blocks, and didn't find many batiks in my FQ drawers.  I'm sure I have more in there somewhere, but couldn't find more than 6.  So, since i need to make a minimum of 10 blocks, and max of 35, I decided I needed some more batiks.  At Patchwork Plus, I got 10 batik FQs, and found 2 light batiks on the clearance rack, so got 1/2 yd each of those.  While I was perusing the clearance area, I found a kid's print of a town, with airport, roads, stores, etc.  I got 3 yds of that to use for backings for kid's quilts - it's fun to have a pieced quilt on the front, and then they can turn it over and play with their cars on the back.

SO, my numbers for this week:

In this week:                     6.5 yds
In YTD:                            6.5 yds

Used this week:                 0.21 yds
Used YTD:                        0.68 yds

Net for 2013:                    5.82 yds ADDED

Today, I've cut the 10 batik FQs for my swap blocks, so that will be 2.5 yds out next week, and I still need to cut more Kona black, so I'll get close to even for next week.

Check with Judy at Patchwork Times to see how everyone else is doing with their stash this week.

Stash report - 13 January 2013

No sewing so far this week.
I've done just a little bit of sewing so far this year - with 3 blocks done for my lifesavers block swap, and black Kona cut for several more.   That's used not quite 1/2 yard.
I haven't been in a quilt shop yet so far this year - too busy with other things.

While I haven't managed any sewing, I did start knitting a new pair of socks yesterday.  So far, sock one has the ribbing and about and inch and a half of stockinette stitch.

Stash report numbers:

In this week:                     0 yds
In YTD:                            0 yds

Used this week:                0 yds
Used YTD:                  0.47 yds

Net for 2013:               0.47 yds OUT

2012 wrap-up stash report

I didn't post on Sunday for the normal stash report, so I'm doing a wrap-up today instead.
I had started some embroidered placemats to be used for Christmas the weekend before we left for the beach, but my machine died in the middle of placemat #4.  Some on-line research suggests that the internal power supply died.  I'm on the service list at Joann's in Charlottesville to get it fixed, but will likely not hear from them to bring it in until late January - or maybe even late February.  Yesterday, I pulled out the Featherweight my mom gave me for Christmas several years ago and got that oiled and greased.  It's sewing like a charm, so I'll use that until my other machine is fixed.  So I resisted the temptation to trade in the Viking on a new model.

No new sewing for me for quite a while, but I plan to change that today.

My totals for 2012:

Used:  38.77 yds
In:         0      yds
Net for 2012:  38.77 yds OUT.

I went the whole year without bringing a single piece of fabric into the house - whether purchased or gifted, or....
I don't plan to go totally no-buy in 2013.  I need a backing for my Going My Way quilt, and I'd like a plaid.  But going for a whole year without buying any fabric has made me look at stashing in a whole new way.   I walk through a quilt shop and admire the fabric, then think about when I'll have a chance to use it, and decide that it can just wait there; I can save the money I would spend on that for something else.
